In this very article, we’re going to review and know about the very hyped Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus Tablet.
Features
Let’s start with the most basic thing to be discussed; Design and Build Quality.
A quality Design and Build
There is a slim plastic frame around the screen, but the body is almost entirely made of metal. The antennas are covered with a small plastic cover on the back. Despite its thinness, the tablet weighs 485g and measures 7.9mm thick. As far as feel goes, the device is of high quality. It has a very slim bezel, a trend among smartphones today.
Right next to the power button are the volume controls. You can insert a Nano SIM card and a Micro SD card on the right side. The tablet comes with 4G LTE in every version. For this Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus, Band 20 cannot be supported, which is a definite drawback for some European countries.
Two speakers, a microphone, and a USB Type-C port can be spotted on the bottom of the tablet. Also below the display, there is a physical button that serves as the fingerprint scanner. Speakers do a great job but comparatively not as high-end as those of Samsung, HP, or Lenovo.
Display
A 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution is available on its 10.1-inch screen. This is a nice screen and it reaches a maximum brightness of 460 nits, which makes it bright enough to use the device indoors or even in outdoor lighting conditions, but not in the direct sunlight because it might get a little dark for that.
With its 10 inches display, texts and photos appear pretty much clear and sharp enough. There is a good reproduction of color and contrast too. Additionally, there are also settings that enable you to customize the screen output.
One major drawback for this tablet is that it does not support HD quality displays on Netflix. So you’d have to deal with that. But this is also a fact that you won’t be always watching Netflix on your tablet when you can do that on your TV.
Also, the display has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Its aspect ratio is the only negative point with this tablet, which doesn’t work well for productivity tasks. A 4:3 aspect ratio with 2048×1536 pixels would have been a better option for high productivity tasks.
Hardware and Connectivity
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Octa-core processor powers the Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus. The processor clocks at up to 2.2GHz and have eight cores. The internal storage options are 64GB or 128GB and 4GB of RAM. In addition to all this, the tablet supports the technologies such as Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and LTE.
Camera
A 13-megapixel main camera is featured, as well as a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It’s good, but it’s not that great. In daylight, you can expect decent quality photos but this won’t be the case in slightly dim light or at night. For taking quick photos of documents or even making videos, these cameras are good. In addition to fingerprint scanning, face recognition is available here as well but is less secure than fingerprints.
Storage
Compared to the Mi. Pad 4, the Mi. Pad 4 Plus does offer more storage space. Among the two variants of the Mi. Pad 4, there was a 3GB version, which came with 32GB of storage, and a 4GB model, which came with 64GB of storage. However, the Mi. Pad 4 Plus comes with 4GB of RAM and comes in a 64GB/128GB storage space.
Performance
When it comes to the performance of Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus, performs great. PUBG Mobile could be easily played with high-quality graphics, without having to deal with the problem of stuttering. This is obviously very good news for the PUBG players and that too, in an affordable price range.
Also, you won’t face any problems running other games like Asphalt 9 and Shadow of Death. The Chrome, YouTube, and other apps too work great. You may also sometimes enjoy some editing of photos and videos with your Mi. Pad 4 plus tablet. So, the overall performance is very fine. Although not as good as that of the much costly Samsung Galaxy Tab S4, it still has a great display and can play most games well.
Fingerprint Scanner and Face Recognition
In the middle of the screen, there is a fingerprint sensor. This will allow you to unlock the Mi. Pad 4 Plus very quickly and securely. This is probably the very demanding feature of a tablet because who doesn’t want a fingerprint sensor on a phone or tablet these days? Absolutely no one!
Face recognition could also be used to unlock the tablet in theory. There is, however, a standard webcam being used. This means that it is unlikely to be as secure since there is no additional sensor.
Battery Life
The battery timing of Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 plus is pretty good too. Furthermore, standby does not consume a lot of energy. For several days, you should not have to charge it if you use it normally. You can use it heavily and it will still last you all day at work or all flights without running out of battery.
The Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus comes equipped with an 8620mAh battery. It usually lasts for 17 hours. What an outstanding accomplishment by Xiaomi! And it has a longer battery life compared to many other Android tablets.
Software
Android 8.1 Oreo is pre-installed on the Xiaomi Mi. Pad 4 Plus. Sadly, that is the most up-to-date software for a tablet since there are none with Android 9. However, Xiaomi has already released two smaller updates. It is good to know they are improving their software.
MIUI version 10.2 runs on top of Android. The UI is heavily customized, as is the case with Xiaomi’s smartphones. For example, all apps will now be installed directly on the home screen and there is no longer an app drawer. Also, the color scheme has been customized.
One thing that is not so likable is that it’s frustrating, however, that so many apps come pre-installed. They are mostly in Chinese. Some can be uninstalled, but not all. Also, a Google Play Store is not pre-installed on the device out of the box. It uses its own browser and a different one. But that’s not really a big problem. You can easily go to the google app store and install the apps like Chrome, YouTube, all those you need.
Pricing and Availability
For the 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage, it costs around 275 Dollars and for 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage, it costs around 304 Dollars.
It got available on 16th August 2018 in China
